We Invite Researchers from Different Domains of Addictology for Cooperation
The project materials were being prepared for around a year. During that time, we studied about a thousand of sources a chose those we believe to be at the state of art of an extremely complex composite of the alcohol addictology i.e. the knowledge (biological, psychological and philosophic) acquired by this time. We’ll also represent the existing rehabilitation programs as fairly as possible and analyze their philosophy by the way that helps anyone concerned choose something that better complies with his or her state of mind, beliefs, values and view of reality.
However, this problem we view as the first stage of our project. On the basis of the materials we collect, we plan to develop a general theory of alcoholism that is a concept that may unite and explain most of the different researches of the issue. Unfortunately, such theories don’t exist yet. The following step we see as the philosophy of liberation from the alcohol addiction. We understand it as a belief system able to show a possibility to recover the freedom lost. And finally, we believe that philosophy must become a part of rehabilitation programs, for its experience can give a recovering addict a comprehensive understanding of his/her problem together with showing a certain way how to live with the alcoholic non self developed in his/her unconscious.
Calling our method philosophic, we don’t take it as speculative. Our scientific curiosity has already lead us to such knowledge spheres as psychiatry, neurology, clinical psychology. I’m used to a strict scientific language, and the science is always at the border between the knowledge and its absence, the absence of knowledge isn’t meant as ignorance here, but the edge of human competence.
We believe that our analysis, conclusions and reflections may be useful to those who are professionally engaged in the study of the addiction and in a certain practice of combating it. We’ve special expectations about the Russian version of the site that will, step by step, bridge multiple gaps in understanding alcoholism and alcohol addiction by researchers and practicians in the former Soviet Union where Russian is either spoken as native language or used in professional activities. Also, we invite everyone concerned to help me establish an international association under the name of Alcohol Addiction Philosophy that will be the first step to institutionalize the suggested research trend. With the help of this organ we’ll be able to hold conferences, publish a journal create and coordinate research programs.
