Although this question is essential for psychiatry, for example, has only a philosophic answer. On one hand, it’s impossible to switch off the human Ego like any other mental function and see how the body works afterwards. On the other hand, the neurobiology is quite far from finding the sweet home of cogito among the brain structures. And finally, a question like that about cogito will remain unanswered due to its specific position. Let’s explain it with the help of some global constructions. After a human is born he or she becomes a person due to a complex process of upbringing. It means the human obtains past generations’ knowledge by acquiring rationally the pieces of the humanity’s experience. This experience must include some knowledge of the past including the facts that had happened before this human began to exist. The situation is more difficult with the future of our knowledge – or more exactly with our Ego – after we die biologically. Nobody has come back so far from another world (given it exists at all). Of course, many are aware of conclusions made by some researchers on the basis of some stories from people having experiences the apparent death. Our attention is caught by the descriptions of some gates or the visions of deceased relatives. However, we understand the value of such observations is doubtful. That’s why the hereafter life is a good foundation for our fantasies. It is by becoming noticeable among other people or by the self-expression language a person understands his (her) own significance. Thereby the foundation of the concept of the narrative cogito is laid. According to this viewpoint, the minimum requirement to a person is his or her ability to tell something about himself or herself. Therefore, we seem to perceive our being in the world with a minimal part of our mind. But it’s the narrative Ego that’s responsible for every affect of our body. It’s also the only source of the information about the cognitive processes inside us.
