The evidence discussed to date suggests that opioid peptides play a specific role in some aspect of the neural system underlying the expression of palatability, the opioidpalatability hypothesis. In order to evaluate fully this idea in humans, an alternative measure of orosensory reward is needed in order to get around the potential problems of interpreting hedonic rating data. One approach has been to examine in detail changes both in eating rate and the pattern of changes in subjective appetite during meals following manipulations of palatability alone [79]. Increasing the rated palatability of a food increased intake and also resulted in increases in rated hunger during the early stages of the test meal [80].
To begin with this fragment we’d like to note one evident problem we constantly have analyzing the higher spheres of human activities. Generally, the psychology as well as other social sciences always face a difficult dilemma. On the one hand, the scientific status, which like a burden is carried by the same psychology or sociology, requires knowledge convertibility and nearly mathematical precision. On the other hand, from the same mathematical point of view the brain and the inner world of a human is such a complex system that can’t match a mathematical body, even if all data is available. The phrase “even if all data is available” is a bolder presumption then the presence of any such mathematical body. Alas, modelling a human is a faraway future challenge. Maybe then the answer will be given if it’s possible at all.
